Dr. Nehir Varol is a leading expert in disaster risk management, serving as Head of the Disaster Risk Management Master's Program and Director of the AFAM Disaster Management Center at Ankara University. She holds a degree in Geological Engineering and a Ph.D. from Hacettepe University, and furthered her studies at Cardiff University with a British Council scholarship. Dr. Varol's career includes significant roles such as Branch Manager at the General Directorate of Disaster Affairs, where she helped establish the AFAD Disaster Education Group, and Permanent Delegate to the Council of Europe Disaster Convention. Varol's fields of expertise also include disaster, risk management, landslides, avalanche, climate change and migration. Since 2014, she has been an Assistant Professor at Ankara University, educating future disaster management professionals and serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Disaster and Risk, significantly contributing to the field's advancement.
